Appraisals & Insurance
Appraisals
An appraisal is a document stating what your piece is and what it would cost to replace — the paper an insurer works from. We offer professional appraisals on request, for a fee, covering materials, workmanship, and retail replacement value, on watches as well as jewelry.
Where a diamond carries a GIA grading report, the report number is on the product page — a grading report and an appraisal are different documents: the report grades the stone, the appraisal values the piece.
Insurance
Homeowner's and renter's policies typically cap jewelry coverage at a low limit — often around $1,500 — unless a piece is separately scheduled. For anything you'd mind losing, standalone jewelry insurance is worth the look.
Through Jewelers Mutual, you can request a free, no-obligation quote covering loss, theft, and damage. Premiums typically run 1–2% of the piece's value per year, with minimum annual premiums around $25–$30 depending on where you live. Any piece qualifies, whatever it cost.
The honest version of this page in one sentence: a $700 pendant probably doesn't need its own policy; an engagement ring probably does.
