Frequently Asked Questions
Considering a Purchase
Fine jewelry in 14k and 18k gold and platinum, set with lab-grown and natural diamonds, the origin is stated on every listing. The range runs from everyday studs and chains to engagement rings, tennis bracelets, and pre-owned watches, sold from our counter at 76 W 47th Street in New York's Diamond District.
The block we work on. Our collections draw on the symbols that have always lived in the diamond trade — light, blessings, connections that hold.
On 47th Street a diamond deal closes with two words — mazal und bracha, good luck and blessing. Our name is the smaller, warmer version of that word, and it was customers who coined it. The full story is on our Our Story page.
Mazalito is Benny Ahdoot's shop. Benny has worked 47th Street for twenty years, and he still makes deals with customers— walk in and you might be dealing with him directly.
Walk-ins from 47th Street, longtime customers of Benny's, and a growing number of people who found the shop online and turned up at the counter asking for the coin flip.
Lab-grown stones involve no mining. Our natural diamonds come from suppliers who comply with the Kimberley Process. We state each stone's origin on its listing so you can decide with the facts in front of you.
New York first — this is a walk-in shop. Online orders ship across the United States.
We would rather you compare specs than names. Metal weight, stone grades, and dimensions are on every listing — put them side by side with anyone.
We are a physical counter at 76 W 47th Street — walk in and see for yourself. Origin is stated on every listing, GIA-graded center stones carry report numbers on file, and checkout runs through Shopify's encrypted payment system.
Send us the listing. If the specs genuinely match — metal weight, stone grades, origin — we will take an honest look. If they don't match, we will show you where they differ.
Prices are on the product pages. For custom work, email hello@mazalitonyc.com with the item number and we will quote it.
Our prices are straight. When two sides genuinely can't close a small gap at the counter, we have been known to settle it with a coin flip — ask Benny about it.
Stock status is shown on each product page. In-stock pieces ship within 2–3 business days; made-to-order and custom pieces list their production time on the page.
Yes — enter the recipient's address at checkout and we will pack it properly. A personalized note costs nothing; just ask. Note that deliveries require a signature.
Every piece is inspected here before it ships. That adds a little time on the front end and saves a return on the back end.
Each listing states the metal, the stone specs, and the origin. Where a center stone carries a GIA report, the number is on the listing; graded stones can be sourced on request. Appraisals are available on request, for a fee.
For in-stock items, yes — expedited shipping options are available at checkout. For custom or made-to-order pieces, email us your date and we will tell you honestly whether it can be met.
Bail and chain measurements are listed on each product page. If you are unsure, email hello@mazalitonyc.com with both item numbers and we will confirm the pairing.
Depends on the design, materials, and work involved. Send the item number and the change you want to hello@mazalitonyc.com and we will quote it.
Yes — a one-year warranty covering manufacturing defects, as set out on our Warranty & Repairs page. It does not cover wear and tear, and outside repairs or resizing void it.
With every purchase you receive:
- A detailed receipt.
- Documentation of the materials and stone origin.
- The GIA report number for graded center stones.
- Warranty documentation.
If you requested an appraisal, it ships with the piece.
Custom Orders
It depends on the design, the materials, and the bench time involved. Custom projects start at $5,000. Send your idea to hello@mazalitonyc.com and we will quote it in real numbers before any work begins.
On average 3 to 6 weeks from the moment the design is finalized. If you have a date, tell us early — we will say plainly whether it can be met.
We adjust the design and materials to fit a budget — a smaller center stone, a simpler setting — rather than cutting the standard of the work. Tell us the number you want to stay inside and we will show you what it buys.
Once your order is confirmed we will send you a secure upload link, or you can email the image to hello@mazalitonyc.com. The higher the resolution, the cleaner the result.

Per-carat pricing depends on the 4 Cs — cut, color, clarity, and carat weight — and on whether the stone is lab-grown or natural. Each listing shows its stone's specs and price; for a specific stone, ask us.

Verification
A security step that protects your purchase. For certain transactions — usually high-value orders — we confirm that the payment details and the buyer match. It can involve validating your identity, billing details, and payment method.
Any ID request will come directly from Mazalito, from an @mazalitonyc.com address. It is standard for high-value orders: we may ask for a photo ID and the card used, so the identity matches the purchase. If you are ever unsure an email is really from us, call the shop or write to hello@mazalitonyc.com before replying.
Usually because verification wasn't completed. Check your email for our request; if no action is taken the transaction is canceled and the funds return to your account automatically.
Certain changes re-trigger verification — a new billing address, a different payment method, or a security flag from the system. It applies to every order that trips it, regardless of history.
Follow the secure upload link in our verification email, or send the materials to hello@mazalitonyc.com. Please ensure:
- Photos are clear and complete.
- Sensitive details — full card number, CVV — are obscured.
We process verifications promptly so your order can move.
Production
14k and 18k gold, platinum, and diamonds — lab-grown and natural, with the origin stated on every listing. Estimated gram weights and stone specs are on the product pages.
Natural diamonds come from suppliers who comply with the Kimberley Process. Lab-grown stones involve no mining at all. We name the origin of every stone on its listing.
Two timelines:
- In-stock items: ship within 2–3 business days.
- Custom or made-to-order: typically 3–6 weeks.
Every piece is inspected before it ships, and we keep you posted along the way.
Custom work is built at our bench. Select chains and popular styles come from trusted partners. Either way, every piece is inspected here before it goes out.
Estimated gram weights are on most product pages. For a precise figure, email hello@mazalitonyc.com with the item number. On custom work, the exact weight is confirmed once the design is final.
Small variations occur — alloy density and handwork both move the number slightly. Differences are minimal and within industry standards.
Karat measures gold purity:
- 24K: pure gold — bright, but soft for daily wear.
- 18K: 75% gold.
- 14K: 58.5% gold — the balance of color, strength, and everyday wearability.
We work in 14k and 18k gold, and platinum.
Yes — we work in platinum alongside 14k and 18k gold; on engagement rings it is offered as a standard variation. It is dense, naturally white, hypoallergenic, and does not tarnish.
Even a simple piece goes through crafting, finishing, and inspection before it ships. Custom and made-to-order work takes longer by nature. The care is the point — it is why the piece arrives right the first time.
Some are made in-house; others come from partners who have earned the counter's trust over years. Every chain is inspected here before it ships.
No. We work in 14k and 18k gold and platinum only — lower karats carry too little gold to meet the standard we sell at.
We understand the sentiment, and we are happy to discuss it. Keep in mind that outside stones can affect the design's structure and the warranty — email hello@mazalitonyc.com and we will talk it through.
Quality Control & Appraisal
Yes — appraisals are available on request, for a fee. Email hello@mazalitonyc.com after you order. It details the materials, stone quality, and value, which is what an insurer needs to write coverage.
Yes — we can arrange an additional appraisal for a fee. Email us for pricing, or consult an independent appraiser of your choosing.
We do not sell insurance. We recommend a specialist insurer such as Jewelers Mutual, or adding the piece to your homeowner's policy — the appraisal we provide contains the details they will ask for.
Yes — one year, covering manufacturing defects. It does not cover wear and tear, improper use, or alterations done outside our shop. Full terms are on our Warranty & Repairs page.
Every piece is inspected here before it ships — stones, settings, finish. Nothing goes out unchecked.
The global standard for grading a diamond:
- Cut: how well the stone is shaped and faceted — it drives the sparkle.
- Color: the absence of color, graded D (colorless) to Z.
- Clarity: internal and surface imperfections, from Flawless down to Included.
- Carat weight: the stone's weight — 1 carat is 0.2 grams.
Each listing shows its own stone's grades, so you can judge every piece on its actual numbers.
Color grades measure the absence of color, from D (colorless) to Z (noticeable tint). The less color, the rarer the stone. The grade for each of our stones is on its product page.
Clarity measures inclusions and blemishes, from Flawless (none visible under 10× magnification) down to Included. Each listing states its stone's clarity grade.
Cut grades how well the stone is proportioned and faceted, which determines how it returns light. It is the C most responsible for sparkle.
Carat is weight, not size — 1 carat equals 0.2 grams. Two stones of equal carat can look different depending on cut and shape; the listing gives you both the weight and the dimensions.
Grades vary by piece, and every listing states its stone's color and clarity so you know exactly what you are buying. Center stones are GIA-graded with the report number on file. Want a specific grade — VVS or otherwise? Email hello@mazalitonyc.com and we will source it.
Contact a specialist insurer such as Jewelers Mutual, or add the piece to your homeowner's policy. The appraisal available at checkout documents the value for them.
Contact us within 14 days of purchase and we will replace it. Past that window we may not be able to reissue it, and an independent appraiser is the way to go.
Yes — email us your order details and we will send a digital copy once the purchase is verified.
Aftermarket diamonds are stones added to a piece after its original manufacture, usually as a customization. We do not work with aftermarket stones unless you specifically request it, and anything we set is inspected to our standard first.
Handwork and alloy density cause small variations. The differences are minimal, within industry standards, and never at the expense of the piece's integrity.

Repair

It depends on the damage and the work required — you get a clear estimate before we begin. Repairs covered by the warranty are free of charge.
Most repairs take 2–4 weeks, depending on complexity and materials. We keep you posted and notify you the moment it is ready to ship back.
No — for battery service we recommend a certified watch repair specialist.
Our repair service is primarily for pieces bought from us — outside work involves materials and construction we can't vouch for. Your original seller or a local repair specialist is the better route.
You ship the piece to us — use an insured, trackable method. Once the repair is done, we cover the insured shipping back to you.
